Ciara’s background is in optometry, graduating from Cardiff University in 2014.
She first became involved in patient safety when she joined HSIB at our inception in 2017.
Ciara’s work identifies safety risks in NHS care, aiming to support investigations that develop system-wide learning and improvements. Ciara is also an improvement leader fellow at NIHR CLAHRC Northwest London - the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (CLAHRC).
Her fellowship project focuses on improving healthcare safety investigations by involving patients and families, allowing their knowledge of safety incidents to aid understanding and to improve patient and family experiences of investigations.
When not at work, Ciara spends time with her family, chasing her energetic one year-old daughter as she learns to walk and climb.
